While working with foreign party, some may be confused by the distance.
But today communication is easy and cheap.
One way well known is e-mail. Then there is instant messaging. This are well used and I won't cover them here.
What I want to write about is voice communication. Today you can use your phone or even just a headset plugged into your PC to talk freely with anyone in the world, cheap or virtually for free.
Here is the short rundown of the services known to me:
1. Skype
One of the most known communication service, it is very comfortable and free if you use it to make PC-to-PC calls, using the headset. Has video chat option, conference calls, all for free.
Installation is very straightforwawrd and easy, just download the client, register as a user and you can start making PC-to-PC calls immidiately.
For calling to the real phone device the rates are not the cheapest available though.
2. Google talk
Mostly equivals to Skype. Excellent messaging tool, easy to use and install, and what is the most important, it stores all your chat in the archive you can use to track your communications, solving one of the drawbacks of voice chat, which is no logs. Doesn't has paid calls to regular phones.
3. Gizmo
Again similar to Skype. Also has a support for AIM, MSN and they are adding more protocols to it! Has call in and call out commercial options, with nice rates.
4. Startec Global Communications.
This company offers a website in 3 languages (English, Spanish, Russian), a no-register long distance call. Their rates are not cheap compared to other companies, but what makes them stand out of the crowd is that you can call from your regular or cellular phone (mobile) to any country in the world, no pin number needed. Unfortunately this option is only available in 50 countries, but if you live in one of them - you are the lucky one and can try their excellent offer.
5. Vonage
Last in my list comes a service for those lucky enough to live in US. Here you can get tall free and all the good things. They have Unlimited plan, with great features and free international calls for a mere $25 monthly fee.
Update: some providers were cleaned from the list, due to poor service. (Stay away from iConnectHere)
